The story of César
César comes from the captivating world of video games, where he worked as a Software Engineer. He has always been in search of new experiences and artistic explorations. Materials, design, and colors were his favorite playground.
In 2020, he set himself a new challenge: the production of cement tiles. He dove headfirst into this adventure, discovering through his experiments the richness, complexity, and possibilities offered by this medium.
His desire to explore the secrets of cement tiles led him to a year of hard experimentation in a first workshop in Montreuil. Hours on the phone with artisans around the world, hundreds of unsuccessful attempts, fragile tiles, and frequent trips to the dump punctuated this journey. It was during this time that a Moroccan manufacturer warmly welcomed him into his workshop and shed light on his many questions.
Inspired by this experience, César decided to establish the Pantinois Laboratory, dedicated to cement tiles. His ambition was twofold: to revive a forgotten craft in France by providing artists with a new playground for creativity and the public with new experiences, and to conduct research to make cement tiles less polluting.
The tiles from César Bazaar prefer to maintain the same artisanal process that was developed in the 1850s. All tiles are handcrafted. César is fully aware that the road to realizing his ambitious goals is long, but he hopes that these initial studies mark the beginning of a transformation in his approach to creation and the environment. His commitment is to combat resource depletion and reduce his carbon footprint. These initiatives represent a significant first step towards a more sustainable future.
