The story of Alejandra
I was born in Bolivia and graduated in Plastic Arts with a specialization in painting from UMSA (La Paz, Bolivia).
My repertoire ranges from painting to artistic performance, including video. My artistic work has been exhibited in Spain, France, Argentina, Colombia, and Brazil, among others.
Having settled in France for several years, my artistic research has evolved. Ceramics and drawing have taken a fundamental place in my work, which led me in 2020 to obtain a CAP in Ceramic Turning in Paris.
Today, I primarily create ceramics (small series of everyday objects) and illustrations under the name SUYU, my brand.
SUYU was born from the desire to create ceramic objects for everyday use.
Almost naturally, I started decorating them with geometric or plant motifs using slip; I suppose this comes particularly from my admiration for pre-Columbian ceramics, and then with more figurative illustrations inspired by the nature and culture of my homeland.
My pieces are thrown or hand-shaped, and I make them in my workshop in Paris.
SUYU (territory in Quechua*) is the space that allows me to combine illustration, ceramics, and painting, all in one!
*Quechua: native language of South America.
