The story of Alejandra
I was born in Bolivia and graduated in Fine Arts with a specialization in painting from UMSA (La Paz, Bolivia).
My repertoire extends from painting to artistic performance to video. My artistic work has been exhibited in Spain, France, Argentina, Colombia, and Brazil among others.
I have been living in France for several years, and my artistic research has evolved. Ceramics and drawing have taken a fundamental place in my work, leading me to obtain a CAP in Ceramic Turning in Paris in 2020.
Today I mainly create ceramics (small series of everyday use objects) and illustrations under the name SUYU, my brand.
SUYU was born from the desire to create everyday ceramic objects.
Almost naturally, I began to decorate them with geometric or plant motifs using engobe, which I suppose comes in part from my admiration for pre-Columbian ceramics, and then with more figurative illustrations inspired by the nature and culture of my native country.
My pieces are thrown or hand-shaped, and I make them in my workshop in Paris.
SUYU (territory in Quechua*) is the space that allows me to reconcile illustration, ceramics, and painting all in one!
*Quechua: native language of South America.
