Sgraffito is a scratching decoration technique: we cover the clay with a layer of color, then we scratch it to reveal the original hue underneath. The contrast between the two creates sharp, graphic, and very elegant patterns.
The workshop provides a small raw clay plate, leather-hard, about 16 cm in diameter. A colored slip is first applied, then the decoration is carved with a point, line by line, to reveal the pattern. The technique is especially suited for simple drawings with fine lines: you can bring your own design or choose from those offered by the workshop.
After drying, the plate goes through two firings, the bisque and then the glaze firing, before being ready for pickup in about four weeks.
49 €, including firing and glazing.
